Crafty brag blog

Crafty as in I made it by hand, that is. Here is the baby quilt I just finished for my brother and his wife, one of whom is due to give birth next week:

And here is a close-up of one of the blocks:

However, after finishing it I am puzzled about one thing--how'd it get so furry?

I guess it will remain a mystery.

pretty! And great job too... I started a baby quilt for a colleague when his wife was expecting, but the baby is 1.5 years old now already and still it sits unfinished in the closet! Maybe I'll finish it if they have a 2nd :)

So pretty! Can I steal your design? What's the block called? I'm making an appliqued fish quilt now for someone else's baby (very jealous of the baby part, but quiltmaking is very diverting after a long day in lab).

Thanks all! Hi jenny f (and others)--of course. It's an 8"x8" design that I came up with after looking at many examples in Jinny Beyer's book about quilting by hand. Each of the small squares is one inch across, and most everything else has weird measurements so I graphed it out on paper, then added the 1/4 inch around each piece to create my cutting template.

If I were doing it again, I would add a wider border--I liked that on yours so much.

Jenn--I actually started this quilt for Dr Hyde's sister's 2nd baby, but didn't finish anywhere near in time (that baby is 5 months now), and in any case learned in the middle that my own brother and his wife were having their first, so I switched recipient plans.... You could always just finish yours up for baby number 1--it's not as though the baby is going to remember you were 1.5 years late :)

PP--Sunny's perpetual look is "feed me." He's garfieldian like that. I washed the whole thing, but it still probably has fur embedded. An immune system jump-start, I can only hope.
