Science Book meme

I enjoy reading the book memes (and will get around to the tag soon, AcmeGirl!) but they don't bear much relation to our lives. As a solution [pun!], Junction Potential has a great thread going about what works belong on a science book meme. Go suggest your own favorite classic science writing! We too can change the Interntez!

The Eighth Day of Creation
Intuition
The Billion-Dollar Molecule
The Discoverers
Natural Obsessions
The Double Helix
The Genome War

(Stuff that's "classic" but no one really reads it: The Origin of Species, The Malay Archipelago, Aristotle, Karl Popper. Stuff for enthusiasts, not real scientists: Gould, Dawkins, creepy stuff about race, arguably Jared Diamond.)

Oh, wait -- were we supposed to post over there?

Reading that discussion, I'd add Thomas Kuhn to the list of authors whom people namedrop but no one actually reads.

Hey, thanks DrJ+MrsH. Looks like the list is as populated as it's gonna get, so perhaps we should send it off to other people soon?

They could always add more books to it.

Sure thing. But you might want to have someone do some QC on it first. Everyone's suggestions are interesting but we don't want to have the same problems as the great books lists (e.g. Shakespeare complete works PLUS Hamlet....)

You could always add a fourth category: "I've never heard of this book or its author" since heaven knows that some of the neuro refs will not reach a general audience.

Ask DM or Physio if they're interested in massaging/propagating it on SB, maybe.
